Lexmark has announced a new program to help user to decrease the environmental inpact of home printing. This new program is called eco-simulator.
This program was originally launched with the business user in mind to help control printing costs and waste at the office. But very quickly Lexmark realized that the home users would love to have a tool like this as well. This is now allowing the individual user analyze their own printing habits to see how their printing habit have a direct affect on the environment. The other effect of this will allow users to save money in the long run.
The Lexmark Eco-Simulator is a tool that caculates the environmental impact of the user’s printing habits.
The Eco-Simulator tool asks users a few simple questions such as:
- Do you use single or double-sided printing?
- Do you use one-up or two-up printing?
- Do you keep your printer for 3 years or extend your usage to 5 years.
- Do you print using Wi-Fi?
- Do you standard or high-yield ink or toner cartridges?
The calculator is based on the full Life-Cycle Analysis (LCA) of their Lexmark printer. The results show that benefits of the new printing behavior suggested by the tool.
