Coming at a cost of $ 130, the HP Officejet J4680 is an all-in-one printer that scans, copies and faxes, besides printing beautifully rendered pictures and documents. The device comes with 20 sheet auto document feeder, convert-to-text and 802.11g Wi-Fi connectivity.
Design and Features:
The Officejet J4680 is similar to other printers in the current lineup of HP printers. Most of the front side of J4680 is taken by control panel that comprises of numerical keypads to input fax numbers, Wi-Fi toggle key, directional pad, small two-line LCD and various access buttons, including ok, back, cancel and power options.
On LCD, the navigating menus are bit tricky due to screen’s horizontal layout. However, after few hours of playing around with buttons, accessing different functions such as print, scan, copy and fax becomes intuitive. The copy function is fully straight forward. You can fit the entire copy to a single page or decrease/enlarge the size to save ink, making the copy darker or lighter as a contrast to the original image.
By turning its wireless access off and on using the front panel button, the J4680 isolates itself from others. It is very simple to set the 802.11 printer server to connect to the computer using the driver network’s preference utility. The print cost is about 4.6 cents for color page and 7.5 cents for standard black ink page.
Performance:
While Epson Artisan 800 topped with 2.82 pages per minute, the J 4680 did not even break a single 4 x 6 photos per minute. It is hard to imagine that any office would afford to keep the printer at this slow-in-house level.
