Dell 1720 Laser Printer – An Excellent Addition to Any Home or Office Network.

dell-1720-mono-laser-printerThe Dell 1720 provides inexpensive high quality prints for workgroups or small offices. For $300, it offers an Ethernet and built-in duplexer, which networks with low print costs. It is an excellent choice for the target audience. If networking and duplex printing aren’t of high priorities, the $200 Dell is an excellent option for home office setup.

Features and Design:

The Dell 1720 has a box type body with charcoal gray color and an all-business, no-nonsense look. One slot located above the tray works as manual feed tray to feed sheets of media one at a time.

The control panel is simple – continue and cancel button and several LEDs to alert for paper jams. The Dell 1720 has two models – base model costing $200 and 1720dn costing $300.

The Dell 1720 involves built-in duplexer and built-in networking via Ethernet for any automatic double-sided prints. Both models include 366 MHz processor. While 1720dn ships with 32 MB, the 1720 ships with 16 MB RAM. Both are upgradeable to 160 MB and 144 MB respectively. They also incorporate parallel and USB connectors.

Dell has an optional wireless printer adapter for wireless printing.

Performance:

Keeping in touch with the competition, the 1720dn offered black text pages at 13.46 ppm. Comparatively, the slightly expensive Samsung ML-3051ND was bit faster while the less expensive Lexmark E250dn was bit slower.

The Dell churned PowerPoint prints at 11.79 ppm while it produced graphics prints at 21.59 ppm speed. Overall, an ideal business printer.
