The HL – 4040 CN from Brother is a moderately priced single function laser printer for small offices or workgroups. Costing just $ 400, this network-ready printer has some interesting features to offer such as good print quality, secure print and reprint. Though it is a bit slower than competition, the Brother HL is cost-effective for those with standard print requirements.
Features and Design:
In terms of design, the Brother HL-4040CN is a standard color printer with average looks. The connector ports (Ethernet and USB) and power port sit on the printer’s rear. Befitting the basic functionality of the printer is the control panel that is basic in nature.
Four of its multidirectional buttons permits you to navigate menu, whereas the Direct Print and Reprint buttons permit you to make prints without even touching the system. The driver assists you in manual duplex tasks. You can make poster prints (as big as 5 x 5 sizes) and N-up prints (nearly 25 pages in a single sheet). Yet another feature is the reprint option. You can print nearly 999 copies by pressing reprint button without using the PC.
In terms of graphics and black text, the Brother HL-4040CN was amongst the slowest, but fastest in terms of graphics and color text with 15.79 ppm score. The color graphics speed was 14.83 ppm while the color text speed was 13.77 ppm.
Though the color text edges weren’t clean, they showed smooth color bending. The Oki C3400n printer is best for those workgroups that don’t mind slow print speed but desire quality.
